How do I read someone else's diary?

So I read threads that people are able to "look" at others diary's. I've tried clicking on people's names, have never been offered an option to see a diary. Do I need to friend someone to see a diary? I just thought I might get some meal ideas by seeing what others are eating.

    You click on their name, then click on it again when it pops up. That will take you to their profile, and if their diary is open, you'll be able to click "view diary".

    Okay, thank you. So normally I see a lock and it says private. Is this where I would see the words view diary? I'll keep looking..

    in order for you to see their diary it must be made public or shared with friends. I share mine with friends
