I am looking for friends who have had success with the ketogenic diet. It says it can lower cholesterol which seems impossible but I want to give it s try . I have been slowly cutting back on carbs and eating healthier lately but this will be quite extreme. Does anyone out there know if a glass of red wine is ok on it?

Hi, you can join the Low Carb group here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/discussions/394-low-carber-daily-forum-the-lcd-group
and/or the Keto group here: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/discussions/1143-keto
Both have lots of members doing varied levels of LCHF diets, ask them anything! I enjoy a glass of red wine with dinner, but I am now in low carb maintenance.0 -
Definitely that group mentioned by camtosh. Two books might be helpful. Keto clarity and cholesterol clarity both by jimmy moore. Lots of readable advice there.0

That just set off a bunch of red flags... If you think it's extreme, then why do it? What are the chances you will stick to it? What purpose does it serve you?0 -
Because I feel much better mentally and physically when I eat that way. Extreme for me is not eating my beloved popcorn! Habha0

And a lot of people want support for doing a juice fast, and sometimes support is pointing out things that are a bad idea.0 -

To me it seems quite illogical to go low carb for cholesterol problems, because how many people's high cholesterol came from eating just carbs in the first place? I believe high cholesterol levels are linked to sat fat and trans fats, which don't come from carbs. (Maybe carbs that are drenched in butter, cream or cheese, but not plain carbs)
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that if the low carb thing doesn't work out, you can always try high/moderate carb with lower fat.0 -

Agreed trans fats will raise cholesterol, however dietary fats in general are not linked to high cholesterol. High cholesterol is mainly due to being over weight and inactive, or it's genetic.0 -
