Trouble falling and staying asleep

The last few weeks I have had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. I will feel tired but when I get into bed I just can't fall asleep and then I wake up several times. The best sleep I get is a few hour prior to having to get up.

I have tried chamomile tea, ZMA with melatonin, I have to take Zyertec prior to bed for some allergies. The thermostat is set to 65 degrees from 10 pm until 6 am. We run a fan in the room for white noise.

Any suggestions?

Do you exercise? considering adding some exercise to your day if you don't, it can help with relaxation at bed time. Maybe try a warm bath before you go to bed. Once I got into an exercise routine there was nothing that would stop me from falling asleep and staying asleep all night.

I am weightlifting three days a week and playing basketball 2-3 days a week.

was you taking zyertec before the sleep problem started? zyertec can cause insomnia in some, did so with my DD.

personally i take 2 alteril natural sleep aid (box version with orange color, cheapest at walmart i believe) about an hour before bed, i fall asleep within 10-15mins of laying down with it, without it, i toss and turn for hours. does not work for all though but, worth a try i think. if you try it, take it at least for three days before given up on it for i found it did not wokr on first day for me but, started working great by third day (the natural ingredients/herbs need to build up in your system a little i guess). i still wake up during night soemtimes but, i fall right back to sleep within the minute every time now.

I'd blame the allergy meds too if the timing makes that possible. My husband gets insomnia and weird twitchy energy from his so tries really hard not to take it at night.

Try making the room dark with blackout shades/curtains and eliminate illuminated devices. Reduce digital exposure before sleep.

Do you drink a lot of coffee/caffeinated beverages?

I drink roughly a bucket of coffee some days and it definitely affects my ability to fall/stay asleep.

I do not drink coffee, nor any other beverage with caffeine. I drink only water and and I have tried the tea that had no caffenine in it.

Interesting about the Zyrtec my allergist is the one that said to take it at bedtime. It isn't the Zyrtec-D but still might be that.

A carb heavy meal at night and keeping my bedroom cool rather than hot helps me sleep.
