Trying to lose weight while on crutches

I was in an accident a whike ago and I broke my legpretty badly. Subsequently I put on a lot of weight whivh has made me literally sick and is stalling my healing. I have just taken up walking and cakorie counting to lose 40 kilos (at the very least) I am looking for friends and people facing the sme kinds of challenges.
