If you are eating your 1200 calories a day, do you still need to exercise? I currently have a job that keeps me very active one day a week (I end up walking between 6-8 miles that one day), but the remainder of the week I don't do a lot and have a desk job. The most ideal time to work out is in the evening, but by the time I get home I am tired and don't do anything.

Does it matter if I work out in the evening vs the morning? And will 30 minutes a day every couple of days make any difference? Or does my one day of increased activity help? Any guidance?

1200 calories is generally for a sedentary person...which it sounds like you are for the most part. If you are exercising you would need more and one of the reasons people get into fitness initially is because they realize that it will allow them to eat more. As a matter of overall health I highly recommend getting at least 30 minutes 5x per week of cardiovascular exercise...a brisk walk would suffice. Mind you, this is just for basic health and isn't going to do much to improve your level of fitness. If you want to up your fitness you'll need to do more and you'll need to do some resistance training of some sort as well.

It doesn't matter when you workout.
