Happiness lives in a chocolate bar

Happiness lives in a chocolate bar
A dash of cocoa that covers the scars of times so harsh
The calories that build bridges to worlds apart
What I wouldn't give for another bar

That taste is enough to warm the heart
But once I start it takes over it's hard to depart
This train of over indulgent false restarts
You can't use sweetness to heal a bitter heart

I eat till I'm in pain so that the past can remain
Like frosted faeces ready to be stepped in again
I want to stop but all my actions are in vain
Ruled by the heart and not the brain, still the pain remains

Often it feels like watching though another persons eyes
Watching a feeding frenzy of cakes and pies
But all of that is increasing my size
It's hard to ignore the truth because the scales never lie

Unhappiness is temporarily fixed
By a bowl full of cereals or a packet of crisps
A meat feast pizza or a bag of chips
Forever a slave to the taste of the quick fix

I just received a message about this being sad. I personally don't think of it that way, just a truthful look at how food is often used as a vice. When I read it it reminded of the times I felt that way and reminded me of how I never want to feel that way again. It motivated me. I guess it depends on how you look at it, like all art. But I would hope people take something away from this for the better. It isn't very often over eating is seen as the issue it is and its a stark reminder of what can be driving it. More often than not attempts at dieting/stopping this behaviour without addressing the causes behind it fail. This should remind people to address those issues and be as effective in their goals as possible :)
