Background. I've done this before. I lost 50 lbs here in 2012. I only quit when I had a medical scare and then a pregnancy etc. Well, I'm back again and feeing back into the rhythm like before. I just have a question. I am NOT asking how to spot reduce. I know that's not possible but do you think the saying is true that the first place you lose weight from is the last place you gained it? Exceptions? That seemed to hold pretty true for me the last time but this time I have the nice baby belly to get rid of. And I gained all in my stomach. I wore the same pants the whole time, hips didn't change. Just belly. And I had pre-eclampsia and swelled a lot. Like 10 lbs a week a lot. Then a c section. Anyway lots of belly I've never had before. I've always been pretty evenly spread out. I've heard that it's hard to lose the fat in this area. Does that mean it's usually the last to go? I'm not discouraged either way. I'm honestly curious. Thoughts? Thanks!

It's hard to tell. Sometimes it changes as you get older or if you've dieted before. Last time I got really lean my legs were the last to go, this time my legs are the first to start looking leaner. It's only been 3 years.0

I've heard the first gained, last lost phrase.
To date, I've seen no research that really predicts where fat will come from - well maybe some saying visceral versus subcutaneous noted by certain differences. But nothing predicting where a particular person will lose most from.0 -
Ok thanks. I guess I'm just a little afraid that I'll never lose the baby belly. Like its some kind of special fat that never goes away. Obviously this is crazy it's just the part Of me I hate the most I guess.0

I had two kids. I was actually obese when I got pregnant and gained 50-60 pounds during each pregnancy, but now I have visible abs. It will take time, but taking care of your body and remaining patient will pay off.0 -

Thank you for that. I was still a good 50 overweight when I got pregnant too, and gained 60 lbs with him. A lot of it was fluid but still. All belly. And that was always the last place I gained it, was lucky before. But I needed to hear that. I'm patient and plan to keep plugging away. Sometimes it just helps to visualize the end result. You know? And congrats on the abs!! I know that was a lot of work.

Thank you! My main suggestion to help lose the fat and like what you see in the end is to start some form of strength/resistance training. It gets pushed a lot on here, but it's really good for our health for a variety of reasons. It can be as simple as body weight exercises in the beginning. Don't forget to massage the c-section scar (once it has healed completely). It will help reduce the odd bumps your stomach will get along the way.0 -

How did I know you would say that? I guess I need to look up some simple strength things to start with. I just started the c25k program again. I'm so pathetically out of shape I'm not sure where to begin really. Thanks for your tips though. All of the friends I had on here before are all MIA now. It has been 4 years though. To be expected I suppose.

I really enjoy the New Rules of Lifting book. There's some educational material in there, so you go into the workouts prepared. I'm not in love with the program for it, but I do think it works as a great introduction. There are also lots of free programs on Bodybuilding.com with videos for pretty much everything. That's how I got started. I picked something I was comfortable doing that I found on that site.0

Thank you. I will look into that! Hopefully I can find things I can do at home for now too.0

Check out You Are Your Own Gym. It's all body weight stuff and I think there is an app for it.0

I always gain/lose first in my face - it makes it really noticeable if i'm on a calorie break 9such as because of being on holidays) and you can see my face swell in photos. But it also comes off really quickly luckily0

The first place I lost was my back, followed by my abdominal area. Interestingly enough, I measured myself the other day and found out I had lost 7" from each thigh since September which really surprised me as I didn't think they were smaller.
'You are your own gym' is fantastic, I agree.0 -
I had 2 kids, both over 9 pounds and my waist got up to 45inches around in both pregnancies.
The most fat I've lost is from my waist area. It's really annoying. I'm at the point where the biggest part of my thigh is almost as big as my waist.
My waist weight gain was all baby, but the last place I gained fat was my butt and thighs and it's so difficult for me to lose fat there.0 -
It is different for everyone. Your body decides0
