Calf Injury, which Doctor?

Hello everyone,

I will try to make my story short, so I don't bore everyone. I injured my calf, so I am not able to run anymore and whenever I walk I feel a sharp pain. I know that I need to see a Doctor, but my medical insurance totally sucks. I would like to see some sort of specialist (mainly because my family physician is terrible and he will just give me Naproxen), but I cannot pinpoint which specialist I need to see. I could just go to my family doctor, but he may send me to a specialist anyway, so I can bypass him and go straight to the specialist (some sort of advantage from my insurance). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Sports medicine specialist. Usually a branch of orthopedics.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I will look for an Orthopedist in my network. I injured my calf running. One day I was running, and I started to feel a sharp pain. I stopped, then went home andput ice on it. I tried patches, creams, and everything in between, but no relieve, so I need to go to the Doctor.

Likely a strain. Not uncommon for any type of running or sport. RICE is still the best solution.

Depending on your insurance, your primary care may need to write you a referral. As a nurse myself, if you are unhappy with your physician please find a new one and if you can't bring up your concerns at your next visit. It's your right to feel like they are taking good care of you! Don't let someone get away with being dismissive, especially not your health!
