I have been trying to eat 1200 calories a day and my question is...If I only take in 1200 calories and burn 400 or so, wil I become unhealthy? Do I need to eat back the calories I burned?

Yes, it will be very hard to get the necessary nutrients your body needs to function properly on only 800 net calories.0

Yes, you need to eat back those calories.0

If you exercise for 400 calories, then you would need to eat 1600 minimum. Eating enough will also help fuel your workouts. If you exercise with too little fuel, you will only harm your body in the long run.0

Be careful with over estimating your calorie burn. For this reason I try not to eat all the exercise calories.0

Eat back at least half of those exercise calories.0

You don't erase nutrients you ate by exercising. "Net calories" is just a bit of MFP maths not seen elsewhere.
If the OP has a lot to lose eating 1200 and exercising 400 is fine.0 -
I used to do 1200 with no exercise I lose some weight.. But when I eat 1500 and exercise 300 I lost quicker and feel better.0
