I wanted to post a goal-in-progress success story for all of you that are taking the road less traveled by. I started my journey after the 4th of July last year by re-acquainting myself with MFP and picking up a FitBit Charge. I started at 247 (5'11) and just walked at lunch hour from my desk job. I began to track what I ate, and started to lose some weight. Not crazy fast, but enough to keep me exploring the city at lunch. The weather turned cold (Chicago) and the holiday foods emerged. I experienced a few bumps in the road where I put on a couple pounds (average for the week). Life happens. I continued to work at it and started to see the needle move a bit more after the holidays. I started to run again a couple weeks ago as my body was ready from the walking (start slow!) Today, I hopped on the scale and it read 216. Down 31 lbs!
The "key" to success in this journey is all about the short cuts. As in, there are not any. You have have to burn more than you take in. Outside of a medical miracle, no one is different. You might not lose as fast as you want, or surprisingly fast at times. However, being honest about your efforts and pushing through setbacks. Once you realize that you can't cheat the system and the progress you make is the progress you earn, you can be successful.
I am not at my initial goal of sub-200, but am working towards it every day. When I get there, I will see where I go from there (weighed 192 in H.S. as a swimmer, football player, and sprinter). But for everyone trying to drop the pounds... remember that a "quick-fix" or "revolutionary fat-burning" is just a way to make your wallet lighter. This continues as the majority of people look for the easy route and believe in unsustainable short-term results.
