When I asked my body builder son what he thought, he said no. He drives to the gym and uses that time to relax. That's not me. I am never going to be a body builder. So, I bought a Total Gym off of Craigslist awhile back. Other than a one inch tear it was like new.
Most of the Total Gym YouTube videos are infomercials or just demonstrate an exercise and then say do so may sets with so many repetitions. I had to keep referring to a printed sheet to move from one exercise to the next. I never kept up with it enough to memorize an entire program.
In contrast, I found that with my stationary bike there were many YouTube videos that I could stream to my tablet attached to my stationary bike console and I could simulate the "ride".
I feel the same would be true of the total gym. I just found a YouTube channel "Coach Ali" that you can select the channel search to view Total Gym videos. Many are 20 minutes or more. So I'm off to get a Chromecast so that I can watch them. "Coach Ali also uses dumbbells, stretching bands and other equipment.
You could also buy DVDs but each one is about the cost of a Chromecast. I need the motivation of someone walking me through it to simulate being at a Total Gym class.
My hope is that using the Total Gym for strength training (building from the level I am at now) and alternate to cardio on my stationary bike the next day may be good.
I have heard is that cardio will mainly burn the calories while your doing in but that strength training will burn after your done. You should strive for both cardio and strength training.0 -
My wife and have recently started using one, we like it. We set it up in a room upstairs, when I'm doing my reps she does the stairs then we switch, keeps us moving and very little rest. We are done in 30 minutes and pretty beat, but we are just beginning.0

Keep hanging in there. It's good you have an excise buddy. It takes 90 days to start a habit .0
