Points/Calories: Both work, but MFP = > weight loss for me.

I have read a lot about whether counting points or calories is better. I was getting a little worried that I wouldn't be successful using MFP because so many have come over from WW and then gone back to counting points. I am glad to say though, that I have successfully gone from counting points to counting calories. I just added the script to count WW points on MFP, and, after looking back over my food diary for the last three weeks, I can see that it is the food choices I made that helped me to consistently stay within the WW points that I would be counting on the 360 plan.

Right now, I’m losing faster with MFP than I ever did when I was on WW, though. In 2006, it took me two months to lose my first five pounds on WW (I eventually lost 50 pounds but gained them all back plus some due to illness and medication), but I have already lost 6 in three weeks with MFP (still sick but different meds now), and this is after coming to MFP having already lost 34 pounds in the last year and a half. There might be other factors involved, such as the fact that I am actually applying all the good food habits that I learned while being a WW member and leader but avoided implementing because it seemed like those points just got used up so fast without me being able to eat what I wanted. Or could it be that I use more healthy fats in my diet instead of leaving them out so I could fit in WW bars and desserts or eat out? Or is it because I don’t use sugar, seldom eat any sweets, watch my total carbs, limit my salt intake and actually make wise food choices? I know it’s not exercise because I have a chronic illness that prevents me from exercising at all. Whatever it is, I am happy about it and thrilled that counting calories is working so well for me.
