Do I need wider running shoes?!

The last two pairs of running shoes I've used, my pinky toes have worn through and made holes in my shoes! Does this mean I need to move to size wide?

There should be some wiggle room in the toe-box. Have you been fitted by a specialist? Sounds like you supinate.

I'm pretty sure I do slightly turn inward when running downhill... I've never been formally fitted by anyone! But I probably should! Thanks ClubSilencio!

I usually go a size larger in most shoes to keep my toes from touching the end. But sometimes wide shoes give a better fit, but not always.

Are you having any toe/foot problems? Are you getting close to 500 miles out of your shoes before you wear a hole through them? If you are not having any foot problems and your shoes are not wearing out excessively early you can stick with your current size. If you want or need more room you can either go with a wide or go with a shoe that has a wider toe box. If you go with a wide shoe then it will also be wider in the heel, which could cause heel slippage problems.

I wear a full size larger in my running shoes. That might help you more than width. Not a bad idea to visit your local running store though and try different shoes on and jog around in them and see what feels the best.

Pronate is inwards, supinate is outwards.

If you're willing to look at other styles of shoes, there's decent odds you can find a normal width one with a wider toe box that would work for you.
