Weight Training and Sleep Struggles

I started New Rules of Lifting for Women last week am have having trouble sleeping a full night. I have never lifted before and typical exercise has usually consisted of brisk walking, DVDs at home, Zumba class or other cardio based activity.

I have always been someone who needed 8-9 hours of sleep to feel fully rested but after starting this program I find that I am having a hard time sleeping more than about 6 hours a night. I'm still tried relatively early in the evening, 9pm or so, but I keep waking up consistently after 6 hours and struggle to fall back asleep. I wake up for work at 5:15 am and haven't felt sleepy during the day but I'm worried that I'm not getting enough sleep.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar or know if this is something that should be a concern?

you are probably fine, your body is working more efficiently if you are eating better and exercising. I have to force myself to stay up late or i will be up too early in the morning.

You can try taking a magnesium supplement. It really helped me relax (since magnesium is a natural muscle relaxer) and not only get to sleep but stay asleep. I was having the same problems but didn't want to take anything that was going to make me feel drowsy when I needed to be awake.
