so i want to drop bf to gain some definition without losing muscle, should i be in a calorie deficit or at maintainence while workingout 3-4x a week? i dont want to do a recomp because i want faster results

a 15% calorie deficit has worked for me in the past - I didn't lose any reps on any of my lifts anyway.0

Deficit, you'll just have to put up with the small amount of muscle loss if you don't want to recomp0
