How bad is it to go over the daily 45gm of sugar daily if the sugar is coming from healthier foods like bananas and yogurt? 1 banana has 28gms of sugar and there's sugar in all foods it's very easy to go over for me... i dont add sugar to any foods not even my coffee. how does this affect weightloss?

Even though its fruit, its still sugar. If I do eat fruit, I eat early in the morning. I have cut my sugar intake way down. I try to keep it around 12 gms.
I had someone tell me that the sugar content should not be over half of the number of carbs on any item.
And cutting my sugar intake down I have lost 7 pounds in 5 weeks.0 -
It doesn't affect weightloss if you are within your calories. Limits on sugar is about balance and nutrition and generally aimed at added sugar, but MFP can't separate so has a higher sugar goal (15% of calories) based on an assumption about how much fruit, veg, and dairy people are eating in addition to their added sugar. If you eat more than average of those foods, or even much fruit at all if on a low calorie goal (as you seem to be), it's easy to go over.
I just pay attention to where my sugar is coming from and that I'm getting an appropriate amount of fiber, protein, and healthy fats without worrying about the specific number (I don't go over, but that's also because I have more calories, so 15% isn't so low). Watching fiber can be especially helpful since if you are within your carbs and getting enough fiber, you probably aren't too high on lower nutrient carbs.0 -
I don't actually track my sugars. If my protein, carb and fat macros are close to right, I expect my micros to be ok as well.
Edit:Runs and checks nutrition averages. Yup my sugars are good, lol.0 -
If you're within calories it really doesn't matter....however what I've found in the past when I keep an eye on my sugar intake that weight loss came easier...0

Just avoid the banana if you're concerned, it's about the highest % sugar fruit going.0

While I don't track sugar, I also don't eat a whole banana at a time. I either eat half bananas or chuck them and freeze them. This AM my smoothie had 70 g of banana for 9 g of sugar.
I eat a lot of berries, which are surprisingly low in sugar given how sweet they taste.0 -
I don't eat bananas every day -- more like once or twice a week -- but I sure do eat a whole one at a time. It's 100-120 calories (and I usually do go for the smaller bananas). Planning to have one today before my run.0

I do keep great track of my protien, fats and carbs.. I do try to stay lower on carbs if possible but atleast there coming from things like yogurt and veggies (I am attempting to cut out all grains) I love bananas and I usually have half a banana in my morning smoothie. I'm not a big fan of fruits and it seems that the fruits I do like are extremely high in sugar. I had to cut out green grapes when I saw how much sugar they have.0

I don't track sugar. I'm already tracking carbs....so tracking sugar also is kind of redundant. I don't have medical issues with re: to carbs, so low carb isn't necessary for me. Low carb wouldn't be a lifestlyle change anyway.
I changed my setting to track fiber instead.....much more meaningful.

The reason I try to keep an eye on my carbs is because I'm a super, I mean super picky eater. If it was up to me on could live off carbs and forget all about protein, so I do try to focus on staying a little below my carbs goal so I can make a little bit of a change in my eating habits.I don't track sugar. If you want to keep the sugar in your diet (ideally from fruit) then I would suggest eating them shortly before workouts. This way you have plenty of energy to do your cardio/weight lifting, and very little left over to be converted to fat.0

I honestly don't get much time for workouts ... mom to 3 kids, full time job and school online. . My workouts consist of chasing kids and incorporating little excersice into my daily activities.. but gym time (I wish)Rick_Nelson81 wrote: »If you want to keep the sugar in your diet (ideally from fruit) then I would suggest eating them shortly before workouts. I have not read all responses above but it is 24 grams/6 tsp of added sugar per day for women is the limit for good health. All naturally occurring sugars you do not have to worry about or count. For weight loss it is calories in calories out but I like to make healthy choices when selecting my food most of the time. Hope this helps!!

Sugar itself isn't a bad thing, but from a strictly nutrition standpoint, it's better to get it from fruit because it will also come with vitamins and other things your body needs. I would say if the majority of your sugar comes from fruit and you're staying under your calorie limit for the day, don't worry about it.0

Thanks! that's what I thought.... I'm staying under calories and doing good hitting my macros perfectly.. it's always the sugar that's a little over. . Thanks everyone!0
