Just curious. I don't have a Fitbit.

It is generally high for me, as much as double the amount I get when using a heart rate monitor and calculating from there,

It's an overestimate for me. I go with half to 2/3 of what it gives me.

Running burns approx 100 calories per mile.

A good quick and dirty estimate is 0.75 x (your weight in pounds) x miles.

This varies slightly depending on your endurance level, heart rate, yadda, yadda, yadda, but for general purposes this is a good quick test to see if what you're using matches up with reality. Personally I think it's a bit high of an estimate but for distances under 10k it seems to be close enough for me.

It works for me, it knows my weight and pace. I think of it as an estimate of additional calories burned over the day because I ran though, not that I went out and burned that many right then.
