2 days of fasting to kick start your body?

While talking to my mother last night about my plans to try and loose weight she told me that she was instructed by the doctor a couple of years ago (she is a short little dumpling and has been for many many years) to have two fasting / restricted days before ever starting a new regime to kick start your metabolism into loosing weight.
Is this complete nonsense? Does fasting for two days before starting a new regime really make a difference to the amount you loose / how quickly you loose?

Complete nonsense-fasting does not kick start metabolism. However, there are several intermittent fasting plans that are good for weight loss, that you may be interested in-but you do these for the duration of your weight loss (and even afterwards, for the health benefits associated with them). There's a few IF groups here on mfp, to get some more info-

Thanks - I'm glad I didn't blindly follow "mother knows best!"0
