Sick and not working out

Hi all, I went away for a week and didn't work out. When I returned home I got a horrible nasty head cold/virus and am literally sleeping constantly. I have no energy. I am now at week 2 of not working out and it's driving me nuts. Physically I know I can't do it, but I am wondering how to get back into it once I feel better. I do primarily weight training with some cardio. Any one else has this happen and how did you ease back into it after such a long break? I've never gone 2 weeks (and it's looking like more) without working out. Suggestions? Thanks!!!

I've been sick followed by a 5 week cough and feeling very physically run down. Still managed my daily walks but that's it. I've been REALLY beating myself up bc I haven't lifted for 2 weeks. Finally feeling well enough to pick back up. Tonight it's on.
Just get back on that horse! Whether it's a long ride or short just do it!'0 -
This sounds more like influenza. Listen to your body. It needs to heal. You might want to start with brisk walking, and lighter weights, and ease yourself back into the intense stuff.0

Same boat...albeit not as long. This morning was my first time back in the gym since Saturday...and I'll be honest, I probably should not have been there Saturday. It was hard, but I just needed to get my body back in the swing of things. I did not lift a single weight...I walked the track, would do some bodyweight squats, walk the track again, plank, walk the track....for about 45 minutes. It. Was. EXHAUSTING. And it wasn't much at all. But it was enough to help me ease back in. I'll be back tomorrow and will hopefully have the strength to do a little more, and eventually build back to where I was, but I'm not going to hurt myself by pushing too much too soon.0

I just experienced this exact same thing. Went on a trip to Vegas, the same day I returned home I got a horrible upper respiratory infection and was on the couch for a full week, barely able to make myself food let alone exercise. I ended up not being physically active at all for a full two weeks. Take it easy and listen to your body. When you feel close to 100% again, ease back into it and don't overdo it.0

I seem to remember my physical therapist saying that it takes 3-5 weeks to lose 1 weeks worth of training. Don't stress it- Take care of your body, let it heal, and listen to its needs. When you're up to it, go to the gym and see what you can do.0

I haven't worked out in over a week myself.. I was diagnosed with the flu last week.. Starting to feel better but still have bad upper respitory issues... I will try for a slow day at the GYM tomorrow or Friday... Walking, Elliptical, weights.0

How? By doing exactly as you said: ease back into it. Don't expect to do the exact level of activity you did before. You may be able to, only if you rest and let your body recover completely, but don't be disappointed if you have to start back at a lower level.
You won't lose as much of your strength and endurance as you think. I had the flu recently and couldn't work out for almost 2 weeks, but after a week I'm back to where I was. Just take time to get fully recovered first!0 -

That's life!
Heal up, give yourself time, then get back to it. Our bodies HEAL THEMSELVES!!! It's flipping amazing.
I don't understand what you're asking. People go years without exercising and then start. Two weeks isn't going to set you back that much. Just get out there and do it, once you're better.0
