Normally I sleep okay, but if I my sleep pattern gets slightly perturbed my body goes haywire. Because it's spring break I got 8 hours of sleep last weekend. Personally if I get too much sleep (yes 8 hours is too much sleep for me), I am no longer sleep well the next few nights.
So last night I ate around 5,000 calories (I'm 5'4'' and only 110lbs). The actual calorie amount doesn't bother me, but the fact that I felt that hungry does. I honestly believe this insane amount of food wasn't from a bingey place, but because I was legitimately hungry. I hadn't slept in over 30 hours and in a weird way I felt like my body just wanted more food to keep it from shutting down.
I'm looking to get my sleep medication adjusted, but I wanted to know if anyone else experiences this problem/ how you deal with it? At the moment my medicine just isn't working, and I need to wait a bit to see a doctor. Whenever my sleep gets messed up it really screws up my hunger cues and makes me feel terrible all day. Although I don't care if I gain weight or not, I know taking in massive amounts of food with minimal amount of sleep isn't healthy and would rather not go through this insane hunger every time I can't sleep.

Yeah, that sounds like a bad cycle to be in. Hopefully you can get your meds straightened out and get your sleeping pattern back on schedule soon.
I haven't had this problem to this extreme, but I DO agree that insufficient sleep affects the quality of my daily life. Sleep is very important to me.
Do you HAVE to rely on medication to sleep? Not judging or questioning you on anything you don't want to talk about! Just thinking that you are young and getting into a good sleep pattern on your own would serve you better down the road, if at all possible.0 -
At college I normally don't have issues sleeping, because I'm so exhausted from running around all day. It's only when I'm extremely stressed does insomnia kick in while at school. When I'm on breaks, I try to regulate my sleep schedule, but it's just so tempting to sleep in the first few days that I end up screwing myself for the rest of the week. (Btw I normally don't overeat to the extreme like that, but yesterday was just such a bad day). The medicine isn't a regular thing, but as needed, although lately it hasn't been working all that well.0

Yes, studies show lack of sleep can interfere with your hunger hormones. I just do as best as I can and focus hard on my sleep hygiene.
I do have Ambien, but I take it so rarely (once every few months) that it always works.
I take sublingual melatonin regularly.0
