Hi Everyone,

Looking for some help on bread crust. Does anyone know how many calories are in Bread Crust? Oroweat Whole Wheat is the bread I'm considering if you need a specific type.

I'm looking to shave off some calories from my lunch by removing the crust.

Thanks!

You need to weigh the bread you're eating (without the crust) and log it that way.

Yep - by the weight of each slice

The same that's in the centre of the bread.

    It's not a different product.

    This.

The crust is made of the same materials/ingredients as the non-crusty part. While it is possible that the cooking process slightly affects the caloric content of the outermost edge of the bread (and I'm not saying it does--I've never researched this) the difference would have to be minimal. Just weigh your crust and subtract it from the bread you eat. So if one slice of bread is 50 grams and you cut off 15 grams of crust, your slice is now 35 grams, or .7 servings.

Okay thanks everyone. Looks like I need a scale =)
Also, I didn't know they were the same. For some reason I thought the crust had more cals sense it was denser.

Nope. It's the same. So every time your mom and dad said "stop leaving the crusts, they're the same as the rest of the bread!" they were right :)

If you are counting calories I suggest a scale for everything!

Exactly. The only reason the crust is denser is because it has less water weight than the rest of the loaf (because it's on the outside while baking). The only caveat to this is that some breads have a butter coating applied, which would raise the calorie count of the crust.
