Moooooooobs

For the last 18/19 years of my life, pretty much since i remember being body conscious, i have had to put up with these f**kers. For so long, every glimpse in the mirror i look at myself and hate the sight of them. Not enough to do something about mind until now! Haha.

My question is - As a 29 year old male who is 6 foot tall, i have come down from 15.5 stone (217 pounds) to nearly 14 stone (199 pounds). I won't ever feel like i have finished losing weight or dieting UNTIL these B**TERDS have gone. What do i have to do to get rid of them? Is there a BMI value that represents a body with no moobs? I know targeting areas for weight loss is pretty much impossible but surely things like press-ups will help tone the area but i want them GONE!

Any advice from people who had them and managed to get rid of them through weight loss alone? Or any advice in general! Sticking to a calorie deficit until they're gone is my only plan at the moment.

You can give them to me! I'd gladly take them. I could use a bit more up top.

In all seriousness though, I think your current plan is the best one. Give it some time for you body to catch up and even itself out. I don't know if there's an "ideal" BMI to shoot for so I'm no help there, sorry.

What kind of exercise do you do? Do you lift? A good lifting program can really help reshape your body.

Agree with above poster...your body shape will change and "catch up." Keep after it though - you could lose another 20 pounds and get your BMI into the "healthy" range or you can keep your weight where it is and get ripped in the gym.

I used the gym and a BeachBody product - Insanity (my favorite to flatten my tummy and firm everything up). I ended up doing Insanity every other day since it was so intense a day of recovery seemed appropriate. It took twice as long that way but it really worked.

Wise choice (the bolded part). Moobs are made of fat. The only way to get rid of them is to lose the fat. The only way to lose the fat is by caloric deficit. You can't "tone" fat (and there's no such thing as "toning" anyway) - working the chest will strengthen the pec muscles beneath them, but won't do anything to help get rid of the subcutaneous fat covering them.

I would like to offer another perspective. Even after you have successfully reached your goal or ideal weight, you may still have this problem.

Sometimes the condition is genetic, and it has a medical name which for the life of me I cannot remember right now - I am sure you can google it.

My cousin ended up having surgery to correct the problem as he too was very unhappy with his appearance - I think he had the surgery when he was in his late teens or early twenties, and he was at an appropriate weight.

Cool. Thanks for that. I always assumed that was the case which is why i have been in no rush to do pressups in the hope it would tone up my chest. I will do them anyway for exercise purposes soon but it just reaffirmed what i already knew.

My younger brother got this done a few months ago, its an option but i would rather not obviously. My only worry is as i have had them for so long im not sure they will be that easy to get rid of. Its still early days, I'll give it at least a year or untill im at an ideal weight.

I'm down fifty pounds and still have manmaries. They're a lot smaller now, of course, but I still notice the way my messenger bag strap and seatbelt cut into them. You're on the right path with the calorie deficit. I'm only an inch shorter than you and I'm at 188lbs, for your reference.

Yep, it could be the way your genes are programmed to store fat. Some guys get the Hank Hill beer belly look where they are skinny everywhere except for a prominent belly. As somebody mentioned it is also possible that there's an underlying medical/hormonal issue causing breast development.

There's a fantastic thread on here from last year with some very detailed information on this subject. I'll see if I can find it.

The answer to your question will depend on the problem. Be it excessive fat accumulation (psuedogynecomastia) or actual breast tissue (gynecomastia).

Psuedogynecomastia will solve itself through overall fat loss.

    Gynecomastia will require surgical intervention.

Hmm. Can't find the thread. But here's my post from another.
    Depends what it is.

If it's pseudogynecomastia it's just adipose fatty tissue. Fat will go in it's own time, as a result of a sustained calorie deficit, yada yada,

Actual glandular breast tissue caused by gynecomastia will most probably need to be surgically removed. There's a possibility that medication may work if used early enough, but I wouldn't fancy taking those sorts of medications.

In both cases, aesthetically the appearance may be improved with increasing pectoral mass, but all the exercise in the world will not remove glandular breast tissue caused by true gynecomastia.

If it give you hope I have this same issue and it is just starting to correct itself. I'm 5'9" and now at ~177 lbs and around 11.5% body fat and from the sounds of it like you I hold all my fat in my mid-section. I've been fighting to get rid of them for years but they are one of the last things to go for me. Keep driving the weight loss and they should disappear.

On a side note you could check with your brother to see what the stuff he had removed was made of (fat or tissue) and go from there.
