Logging fruit & produce

I was logging my afternoon pink lady apple and there are literally dozens of apple options with a wide variety of calories/macros to select from. This applies to all fruits and produce, but how do you know you're selecting the right one? The Whole foods Pink Lady apple is 100+ calories for 6oz, but the Trader Joe's Pink Lady apple is like 20% less. I weigh everything by the gram, but that doesn't help if the calories per gram varies from selection to selection and you pick the wrong one!

Ugh!

Check the USDA website and log what's closest to that. Sometimes the MFP system has USDA entries and I'll pick those ones if I'm using something without a label.

There is no usda info for pink ladies.

I just found an average entry in grams and use that one, personally... I eat one a day so yeah, wish there was an official entry for that one!

You have to remember that a lot of the food entries are done by other MFPers, so they aren't always perfect. I usually search for whatever I'm eating and add "USDA" to the end of my search and then use the entry that appears to the be the most accurate. Even if it's off a few calories, it is unlikely to have a major impact on your overall weight loss.

That's great, thanks everyone! I'll add USDA to my search terms!
