You have to want it bad enough, no one is going to hand it to you.

Lots of trial and error, honestly. You'll eventually figure out what works. I have pretty low will power when it comes to sugar, especially ice cream. No matter how good I do, I will eat all the ice cream I can fit in my face if given the chance, so I just can't have it in the house. I might still get some if I'm out, but you have to learn for yourself. Each time you feel your discipline slip, that's a lesson.

Look at as a marathon. You are in it forever. It really is a lifestyle change. Initially staying motivated is because you are trying to accomplish something. But if you reach your goal, you still need to keep going.

I keep thinking back to my last physical and my doctor telling me "you're obese." Technically borderline, but close enough. I denied it because I was plenty active, hiking, skiing, etc. She was right. That keeps me focused and determined to not be obese.

Sometimes you don't need to be focused and determined. You just have to slog away at it, because it's the right thing to do. Think of this: you don't have to be "focused and determined" to take a shower every day.
