Debilitating Tiredness

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the best board to post on, but it's somewhere to start (I've also posted in the diabetes forum).

I know with being extremely overweight and having diabetes that isn't under great control, I am going to be more tired than most. It goes with the territory!

But these last few months I would go as far as to say it is debilitating.

I have been eating really healthy, doing aquafit twice a week and had really good levels with my diabetes. However, I am still sat at my desk literally falling asleep. I am so tired I just want to cry. It is affecting my work, my home, everything.

I know the best answer is to lose weight and have good control of my diabetes, but that is a long slow process. I am so tired, I don't have the energy to do what I need to do to lose weight.

Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Any advice anyone can offer will be soooooooo welcome. I can't carry on like this.

Many thanks

Claire

Maybe get a sleep tracker to find out how well you may, or may not, be sleeping at night?

Has your thyroid been checked recently (for hypothyroidism) or anemia?

    Do you exercise at all?

Make sure you are getting enough water throughout the day. I always sleep better on days when I pound the water, but I don't have any experience with diabetes, so maybe it works differently for you?

I have had my thyroid and anemia checked recently and they were ok. I have more blood tests in a couple of weeks.

Currently my exercise is going to aquafit twice a week. Its that vicious circle of not having enough energy to exercise even though exercise if supposed to give you energy.

I drink constantly throughout the day, never have a problem getting my water in.

I think I sleep ok. Wake up once or twice for the toilet depending on how much I have had to drink. But always wake up tired. But even if I tracked my sleep and found out it wasn't good quality sleep, what could I do to change that?

Call your dr. This might be normal, it might be a sign of a serious health issue, no one here can guess. Talk to your dr, you need to investigate this, especially since you know you have health problems. It could mean you need to change your diabetes meds, or it could be a completely different illness.

Honestly this sounds like my depression. I started a new antidepressant 2 months ago and about 3 weeks into it I could not stay awake. I'm talking sleeping 10-12 hrs a night and still taking a 3hr nap during the day. I had to stop that medication and my doctor ran blood tests and told me everything was fine. It's 2 weeks later and I'm still tired all the time, but it's much better.

I am antidepressants. Been on these ones for a while though, a lot longer than the extreme tiredness.

I agree that you should speak with your doctor. Sleep apnea is a common disorder among people who are overweight (even by just a little bit), and can wreak havoc on good quality sleep. Weight loss will help, but in the meantime, your doctor might be able to prescribe something else to help, or pinpoint some other cause for your sleepiness.
