I like to think of it as getting the most bang for my calorie buck, not just low calorie. We need a certain amount of protein and fats. Those are going to come with calories.
I generally choose lean protein sources. But I dislike fat-free dairy (and I need fat anyway) so I generally look for 2%. Greek yogurt has great protein numbers, I add some FiberOne and nuts for a filling breakfast.
I make egg salad with 1 whole egg + 1 egg white, and then reduced calorie mayo. That still gives me flavor. I add lots of veggies. Reduced calorie bread, lower carb wraps, lots of options.
Veggies are generally high volume low calorie. I always pack some for lunch. Steer clear of starchy ones if you need lower calorie. I love starchy veggies (and do eat them) but portion control is more important here.
Broth based soups are pretty filling for lunches.
Air popped popcorn is high volume low calorie. But, I generally add some fat so toppings will stick.
Quaker rice cakes (the small ones!) are a decent sized snack food.0 -
egg whites with Jones canadian bacon
light english muffins
Kedem tea biscuits
Kim's magic pop with either whipped pb or hummus
plain canned tomato sauce (add your own spices)
Gianelli turkey sausage (hot and mild)
light ranch dressing (use packet of hidden valley dressing mixed with rf buttermilk and light mayo)

Thanks for the suggestions! I was eating eggs and yogurt everyday for awhile and took a break but I agree with you, they are a great food plus high protein. Popcorn sounds good! I also love chicken. I'll have to make some egg salad. Sounds delicious.0
