I know that there are better sources of carbs out there for pre-workout meals than sugar or candy. Assuming you are going into a long training session ( or are in the middle of a long one) what is the harm in consuming your carbs as sugar instead of more complex carbs?

Background:
~Currently I am cutting. Consuming roughly 2300 calories.
~ I burn 600 cals fasted for morning cardio, Weight train for an hour in the afternoon, then burn another 400 cals after I finish lifting.

If it fits into your calories and gives you energy, and you're otherwise hitting you macros, I don't see the harm.

I eat a 2 Tootsie Pops at the gym every day. They are perfect for me for quick energy. Plus, I freakin' love them so I'm gonna eat them anyway.

Intra workout - definitely fast carbs because you want the use of that energy sooner rather than later so hit up that candy! I prefer to do complex carbs pre workout (I eat them 60-90 minutes before I start) I just find I have longer lasting energy for my workouts when I do that. But if you have good energy through your workout with a fast digesting carb then do it!
