I try to get as close as possible. I did change mine a little though. I find myself much more satisfied with a little more fat and less carbs. So mine are set at 40% fat, 35% carbs, and 25% protein I believe.

I'm not honestly sure it matters though. Since people just change them to whatever they want. I saw someone say today say they do 80% fat, 15% protein, and 5% carbs.

It's a goal/target to aim for, doesn't need to be perfect. Get in the ball park, over/under and it will average out over a week or month.

But I think it's the general consensus to treat fat and protein macros as minimums, so go over them a bit isn't an issue.

Focus on being under calories as priority then worry about macros.

to lose weight i watched my calories while noticing my macros. I try and work on my protein and watch my carbs. it kindof depends on your goals too.

Start with aiming to be as close to your calorie goal as possible.

While focusing on that, evaluate how hungry you are. Many people find protein, fat and fiber help them stay full. So things like nuts and veggies can be good snacks. Nuts are pretty high-calorie, though, so don't just mindlessly munch on them ;)

Some folks recommend you try to hit or exceed your protein & fat numbers, and let carbs fall wherever. You can tweak your numbers as @Cynsonya mentioned if you don't like seeing the red when you go over.

I love me some carbs, but I do better if I have plenty of protein and fiber with my meals, so I'll do things like shredded chicken, lettuce and some cheese on a Flatout wrap. That gives me the protein and fiber I need for feeling full, little bit of fat from the cheese, and there's carbs in the wrap, too.

The most important thing is calories - this is what decides whether you lose weight or not.

Macros are for satiety and health. Different people do better with different macro %s. Like @Merkavar said, I follow the advice I heard often here and consider protein and fat as minimums.
