PCOS Rebounds

This is for those of you who have PCOS and lose enough weight to get pregnant!!!

I feel very compelled to tell my story because I hope that it can help one of you if not more. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, at that time not much information was out about it and my doctor suggested a hysterectomy!! Thank goodness my father didn't let that happen!

Fast forward, age 20 I started gaining a lot of weight, I would say I had a bit of a food addiction due to depression. After a year of being fat I took control of my body and went down from 199.6lbs to 129lbs and I did all of this within a matter of about 9 months. I did this by eating a Keto diet and working out daily. I looked and felt great but that weight wasn't maintainable for me, I settled out around 145-150 and I was still a size 6 so I felt good. I'm only 5'2 but I have bones made of cast iron.

In 2011 I met my husband, he lived in Canada and we went through a bit of a stressful time trying to get his admission into the US approved and I gained about 15lbs but I still looked reasonable in everyone else's eyes. I got pregnant at 164lbs! I gained 40lbs during the pregnancy and although I wanted to still eat a healthy diet and exercise during my pregnancy, my body had other plans. I was terribly ill throughout the whole pregnancy and the only thing I could keep down was carbs.

I was 204lbs the day I gave birth(c-section), I already had a diet and exercise plan in place to lose weight as soon as I got out of the hospital. I automatically dropped about 30lbs without trying in the first two weeks. THEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE!! My hormone levels went into "menopause levels" my thyroid failed and my doctors just kept telling me it was normal and to give it time, but I knew that something wasn't right.

Please obtain printouts of your blood work because my doctors continued to tell me my levels were normal and yet every time I got the print outs the results were off the charts! BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE!! I continued to gain weight(back up to 190) i hired a coach who put me on a Keto diet again, I lost 20lbs in 3 months but then when I went off Keto I gained it all back.

He i am 15 months after I had my baby and I feel so lost, I moved to another country(Canada) and I don't have healthcare yet. I have come to the realization that my hormones are so screwed up that I am not going to be successful at losing weight until I get them in check. I am going to a naturopath on Friday to have him run blood work and give me the proper medications. I suspect my thyroid isn't functioning and my FSH and LH numbers are off again and I am going to request Metformin to help with the insulin sensitivity.

I'm writing this because I am frustrated, I paid a small fortune for my healthcare in the states and co pays on top of that and my doctors just kept saying "it can take a while to get back to normal after a baby". Nobody listened to me, they ignored my bloodwork and now I am stuck paying out of pocket for everything but I refuse to be a victim and I will get this under control come hell or high water.

Interesting read. I had PCOS. When I got pregnant, I mentioned it to the nurse so she checked me again and said she didn't see a thing. My hormones are messed up beyond belief. Actually going to a doctor within the next two weeks, but I dont even know what is wrong with me!

Just make sure your doctor wants to fix your hormones as much as you do, and get copies of your blood work.

My HMO is void of info on the matter. I had for so many years
the authority on the matter for my care provider. She was
amazing. She got grants for learning more on Pcos in research
while seeing patients and treating them (myself too) informatively ..
she educated as best she could because Pcos used to be a foggy
diagnosis. I now have a 'preventative care' HMo .. my only choice
because it's all we're offered here. The lady that is my now provider
isn't knowlegable on Pcos, she is a Ob-Gyn & the administration ppl
say she is the best they have. o.O I don't love this situation so I'm
trying hard to do it w/o their help .
