Here's a question, if I eat something unhealthy today, when does my body see the effect of those extra calories?
Hope that makes sense?

It'll be digested with 4 hours and stored somewhere if you haven't burned it off. You liver and muscle will be storing carbs as glycogen, and your fat tissue storing fat.0

4 hours sounds pretty fast to me.
from what I can find,
Digestion can take anywhere from 24 to 72 hours,
from mouth,
to stomach,
to small intestine,
(NOTE: we're now at the 6 to 8 hours mark before the large intestine)
to large intestine,
and into the toilet bowl.

that's the post prandial phase. I'm not talking about how long it takes the last bit of residue to leave your body. Rate of appearance of glucose from foods - glucose drink, Uncooked Corn Starch and (cooked) Corn Pasta :-
