So I went to a new doctor yesterday and not only am I overweight (duh) but my blood pressure is too high. Some reasons for this are:
Smoking
Being overweight or obese
Lack of physical activity
Too much salt in the diet
Too much alcohol consumption (more than 1 to 2 drinks per day)
Stress
Older age
Genetics
Family history of high blood pressure
Chronic kidney disease
Adrenal and thyroid disorders
Sleep apnea

I don't smoke, but am guilty of being overweight, not enough exercise, too much salt, too much alcohol, etc. So today I am making a commitment to change this. Going to the gym every day for at least 30 minutes and sticking to my calorie and nutrition goals!!

Something to add to your lists of health concerns:
Salt and alcohol can reduce the absorption of calcium you eat.
Osteoporosis is horrible to live with.
Consider a women's multivitamin and track your calcium.

So sorry to hear all those things, but with the changes you plan to make you will see amazing results just give it time and keep coming here for support. Food reduction as well as eating a healthier version of what you already eat and exercise should drop the pounds and reduce your blood pressure take it one day at a time. And if your doctor suggest medication it's worth considering just do your home work regarding any of it, take care.

The good news is that it's reversible by making some lifestyle changes. Best of luck!

Thanks all! I've always enjoyed exceptionally good health, so this scared me-- probably the kick in the buttocks I need!

Keeping carbs under 100 grams/day will be best.

It took my Dr. showing that my 'always been good' HDL/LDL ratio was out of whack to kick my Go button. You already know every reason to use MFP, now you just need to do it because your life does depend on it.
