Logging accurately

Hello everyone,
I'm not new to mfp, but I am just getting back. I've been back about a month and I know I am still logging my foods inaccurately even though I do weigh everything. For example, I had a banana for breakfast and it weighed 145 g but I couldn't find the correct entry in the database so I just picked the one closest to it (152g). I figure maybe its better that I'm overestimating instead of underestimating. I've always done this and have gotten weightloss results, but maybe I'm undereating, which isn't good. I have seen that there is an option to create food and I know i can save things under "my food", but I'm not exactly sure how to do this. Any help would be appreciated.

Lots of foods have multiple weight/amount options in the dropdown. If you know a banana weighs 145 grams, find an entry for bananas that has 1 gram as an option, and put the serving as 145. That will equal out to 145 grams of banana in your diary.

Find an entry for bananas that has the option of "100 grams" and then put that you had 1.45 servings.

If you can't find an entry for a specific food that has 100 grams as an option, look up the stats online, create an entry under "My Food" and use 100 gram as the serving size. When you say you aren't sure how to do it, what part do you need help with?

The original "Bananas-Raw" entry that allows you to enter per 100 grams has been broken for months, I believe (@CyberTone you've reported it a number of times, right?). If you can't find one that works for you, create an entry using the information from USDA's database.

Thank you all, that helps a lot! @janejellyroll, it's just not letting me enter anything in "my foods". It let's me put the description, serving size, etc. However, once I get to the page for calories and nutritional info, it won't let me proceed. I enter the calories, but not sure how to enter nutritional info for exactly that serving size (145 g for example). So the box pops up to enter info and has the options of "no thanks" or "add detail". Do I have to add additional info in order to complete the entry? If so, do I just get the info off the usda site ?

You don't *have* to add the details, but they make the entry complete (and much more helpful, in my opinion). Yes, I look the information up online.

If you just want the calories, hit "No thanks."
