Protein help! Which protein to buy

Hey guys. So I would like to purchase a protein powder but I see there are many different types. I don't have any allergies or a sensitive stomach. I see there is Whey, Casein, Soy, Vegan and etc etc. Are all these really different? Is there a type better for you? Which would you recommend or which do you take? (I would use this for after my workout)

This one has been my favorite, just recently got it and like it. The taste is ok, like vanilla, but I love the protein levels as well as the supplements. I also add a teaspoon of phion super green food to it too. Tastes nasty, but it seems beneficial! I also use it with unsweetened coconut almond milk.

Depend on your values. Vegans go for vegan PP. I value good, taste, minimal ingredients, and milk that comes from grass fed cows not given artificial growth hormones, so I buy Biochem Ultimate 100 % Whey protein, Natural.0

I like Trutein because it has lower calories than most and higher protein. They have lots of flavors. I've had Birthday Cake (not bad, but not my fave), Choc PB cup (yum!), Cinnabun (fabulous for protein pancakes), Mocha Caramel (again not bad, but not a fave), and Pumpkin Pie (all time favorite, and fabulous for pancakes). I think I'm going to try Lemon Meringue Pie next. I buy it when it goes on sale at bodybuilding.com.

Whey protein is quickly absorbed, so it is recommended to be taken within an hour before to an hour after exercising. Casein protein is a more complex molecule that whey and thus absorbed more slowly. Therefore, it is recommended to be taken at night or something, so that it can slowly be absorbed while you sleep. It will also make you feel full longer.
I took Casein for awhile, but stopped taking it because I read a very distressing report about a link between it and cancer. I know a lot of people take it, so you'll have to decide for yourself on that, but it sufficiently scared me away.0 -
I like Quest protein powder. I typically use the Vanilla Milkshake and add in extracts, cocoa or fruit to flavor. I recently tried Vega protein at Costco and it wasn't bad.0

Get Rocky Road flavor. It is not fantastic, but still the best one they have. Stay away from any protein from Walmart. Notice the protein I sent you has 13K reviews on Amazon, and it still has 4.5 stars. It is a good product. I switched to a GNC protein for awhile, because it was cheaper, but I'm going back to this. It is just better. They also sell this at GNC, btw, it is just more expensive than it is on Amazon.0 -

First off, I'd ask why? Nothing wrong with it of course, but I often see people purchasing supplements like this and they really have no idea why they're actually doing it or what the supplement is actually for or if they actually need it.
I would first try to address your protein needs through your regular diet...make sure a good source of protein is present at basically every meal and every snack. If you're still not hitting your targets at that point, supplement as needed.
I eat roughly 5x per day...3 meals and two snacks. I try to hit around 150 grams of protein per day, but at least 130 so most of my meals and snacks clock in with 30 (give or take) grams per. One of my daily snacks is my whey shake and an apple...the rest of my protein comes in the form of eggs and egg whites; lean poultry, fish, or meat; Greek yogurt, and whatever protein is coming in with my veg, nuts, legumes, etc.0 -

Whey and casein are both milk proteins. Whey is the most common. Soy or pea protein would be substitutes if you avoid dairy or are vegetarian. Obviously if you are vegan, you want something vegan
I've read about different types of protein being used at different rates by the body, but I'm not sure how much that matters unless you are an athlete or serious body builder (I'm neither so I'm sure others know more about that).
I basically look for the most protein in the least calories that tastes good. I would agree with the poster above re Trutein. It is really yummy and I got it on sale at bodybuilding.com plus you can get samples.0 -
