Should I log my steps as exercise?

Most days I don't account for the steps I take and just log my work outs, but today I walked way more than I usually do and ended the day at over 12,000 steps. Obviously I burned more today than I would being more sedentary, so should I log this? I don't want to adjust my activity level because I'm not this active every day.

I usually log any steps above 5000 :)

Just make sure your estimates are reasonable, many pedometer calorie estimates seem a bit high to me. To be safe I usually only log around 150 calories per 10000 steps.

I would since I only get in average 3000 a day, so anything over I would log.

I log my steps for motivation but not for re-eating.

MFP already automatically logs my steps from my iPhone and counts it as exercise which gives me extra calories. I work in a v sedentary job so I'm trying to make sure I hit 10,000 steps. I think I do more steps than my iPhone records as I don't always hold my phone so that must account for any inaccuracies, at least I know I'm prob doing more than I think!

I do. I have a Fitbit - so it syncs automatically. That is the only exercise I do, so I take advantage of that.

My Fitbit syncs to MFP so it automatically will add in my calories burned from steps but will adjust for exercise so it's not counting twice. For example, a one hour Zumba class yields appx 7,000 steps for me. When I add that to my diary it will give me those calories but shortly after it will decrease my Fitbit calories. I try not to eat back any Fitbit calories but it's nice to have the buffer on days I need it.
