fitting shoes for running

So normally i was wearing a size 8 running shoe (just from any store). i went to a running store and got fitted in a size 7. she said i am actually a 6.5 but they just feel so tight. i got a pair of shoes with thick base so its stable for running. it just feels so claustrophobic lol when i ran in them on the treadmill my feet felt a little tingly. i tried to loosen them. how do u know if they are the right fit? maybe they are still too tight? any advice as I'm new to running and new to running shoes that are fitted lol
they did feel comfy in the store when she had me run in them. but i was on my feet all day when i ran at the gym so do your feet swell too? thanks

Yes, feet do swell. It may be a good idea to go back to the store at the end of one of your days when you are on your feet. Have them measure again.

Typically running shoes should be about a half size bigger. There should be plenty of room in for you toes. Personally, I prefer them a bit tighter so I always get the same size as my normal shoes. It is really a matter of finding what works for you. The shoe store will work with you.

I prefer a snug fit, and I usually need to get a few runs in before a shoe feels great. For me, that's about 50 miles, but I've been running for a while.

If you're getting tingling in your feet, this shoe might not be right for you. Was that your first run in this pair? I would do 2-3 runs and see how you feel.

I would also call the store and ask about their return policy - maybe you need a different design/brand or a bigger shoe to be comfortable :)

@lisa9805 Try this link for a good read on Buying Running Shoes
They include a link to a complete series of articles for new - newer runners.
    My personal rules.
If they don't have a treadmill in the store for you to do a test run on with the shoes - Drop the Shoes and Leave the Store.
Runner Friendly return policy - I have returned shoes that were 60 days out of the store but only had 20km on them - straight refund or exchange no problems.
Store is involved in Hosting/sponsoring at least one local run - This means they are truly vested in the community.

I wear a bigger size in running shoes than dress shoes, 11 vs 9.5, usually. My toes go pretty much right to the end, I can't do the thumb of extra length because of long toes and narrow/shallow feet.

Also - have never found the built up shoes to be any more comfortable than less structured ones - extra cushioning on the bottom seems to confuse my feet and cause problems.

Love my Newtons, they are my favorite. Asics fit the best though, they aren't as deep.
