Transition to Higher Calorie Totals

Hello everyone,

I’ve lost about 45 pounds over the past 11 weeks. My first goal was to lose a significant amount of weight in a short period of time, because I needed to see quick results in order to stay motivated. So, I worked my way down to eating 1200-1300 calories per day. I realize that isn’t considered a healthy total for a male of my weight, but it worked.

I still need to lose 55lbs in order to reach my main goal of 100lbs lost. I want to lose the rest in a more sustainable and healthier manner. As a result, I have decided to increase my calories to 1500-1600 calories per day. That’s still below my recommended daily totals for weight loss, but I don’t want to increase consumption too much/too quickly.

In theory I should continue to lose weight because there will still be a significant calorie deficit, but I wonder if there will be a transitional period that would significantly slow my progress for awhile.

Have any of you increased your calorie intake during weight loss, and did your weight loss stop during that transition? Just wondering if it takes time for your body to adjust. I don’t want to lose my momentum at this point.

    when I did this I experienced a bit of weight gain for several days, but as it turned out it was just water weight and I lost it all and was where I expected to be a few days later

    It’s good to know that it didn’t take you long to get back on track. That makes me feel better about increasing calories.
