My puppy passed

On June 29th my puppy died. He was a 9 month old white GSD that I adopted, his litter (of 12) got surrendered to a rescue when the mum refused to feed the pups.
They took x-rays and his heart was 3x the size it should have been as well as having swollen lungs.
They suggested it was a heart defect he was born with, that it was just a matter of time.
As a result, I have no motivation to do anything but stuff my face. I have 3 other dogs that need me but I don't even want to play, run, or hike. I just sit here.
And eat .
3000 calories a day.
my TDEE is about 2400 when im super active !
but everyone bought me cake and sweets and goodies and yummy coffee drinks. good gestures but dont help in the long run, ugh.
I want my pup back
sleep well, sweet arkane

Oh I'm so sorry for your loss
If it's any consolation, judging from the pics you posted it seemed his short life was full of fun and happiness with you and the other dogs. At least you made his short life so much better. *hug*0 -
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm crying for you. He looks like he had a very good life with you though.0

Sorry to hear about your puppy. Life is not fair sometimes. :brokenheart:0

what a sweet puppy. I am so sorry for the loss of this precious baby but I agree with the other folks that you gave this puppy who sadly was born with a defect that you could not fix, a wonderful life! You know the food won't take away your tears or sadness and only make you feel worse later. I hope you are able to find time to mourn the loss of your precious puppy and find a place to care for yourself, your animals and the people who love you.:flowerforyou:0

I'm sorry to hear about your puppy . I know what you are going through. I lost my dog of 11 years last year June 18th. I still remember everything . I did the same thing for about a month. Just tell yourself it's not the end of the world and go on walks to reminise in the old days when your dog was there with you. Things do get better, trust me0

Am so sorry to hear that .......... but you gave that pup a happy life, and you should be proud of that !
My little dogs have gone to doggy heaven & I think of them often ...... pure bundles of love ...... maybe your puppy & mine are playing together right now0 -
My condolences on your loss. It is always hard.0

I'm so sorry for your loss. For now, I would say to allow yourself to splurge a little and do some damage control once you start feeling better. It always sucks to see one of our fur kids pass. Deal with it how you need to and then get back on. ((hugs))0

I know very much what you are going through. My puppy, only one year old, was hit by a car on June 2nd, and due to his head injuries and internal bleeding, we lost him. Don't worry right now about what you are eating, at least not for the first few days. Give yourself some time. Don't go crazy, but don't beat yourself up over it either. If you are struggling, visit www.petloss.com and either talk to someone in the chat, or visit the forums. The people there are wonderful, and completely understand your grief and what you are going through. My thoughts are with you.0

OMG, another tear jerker! I'm sorry for your loss too! That really sucks!
Along with that suggestions, goosemoose.com is a pet forum and they're super awesome over there! They seem to be more focused towards rats, but they have separate message boards for dogs and cats and other animals.0 -
Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures of him. I wish they lived as long as we do, it certainly hurts to say goodbye. Take care of yourself however you need to right now.0

Thank you all for the support.
He was still being crate trained, and for the last 7 months I had a habit of letting him out in the morning and putting him up at night. His crate is right next to my bed and whenever I get up I gravitate towards it to open it. Blah. Maybe I need to fold it up and put it out of reach, but then I'd have this big ole empty spot to look at.
I took my boys out to the park today to get some fresh air.. and of course there was a dog show going on and a bajillion dogs. Gr. I wanted to take them all home.
I had been expecting to lose one of my older guys (our current are 3 years old, 11 and 13), but not the lil one. Gosh. My seniors better live until they're 20.
Thank you again and I feel for those of you who have lost your pets. This was my first experience of losing my dog, we only had cats before our 13 year old.

THERE is sorrow enough in the natural way
From men and women to fill our day;
And when we are certain of sorrow in store,
Why do we always arrange for more?
Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware
Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy
Love unflinching that cannot lie
Perfect passion and worship fed
By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.
Nevertheless it is hardly fair
To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will,
With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!),
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone - wherever it goes - for good,
You will discover how much you care,
And will give your heart to a dog to tear!
Extract from The Power of the Dog, Rudyard Kipling
I'm so sorry for your loss, I think the loss of a dog is harder than a human family member, maybe because we feel guilty at our depth of grief for an animal.0 -
So sorry to hear of your loss!! HUGS!!!! just you love those other 3 you still have and hold the love in your heart for your Puppy Angel in Heaven!! In my faith we believe we will see our beloved pets again!! They are truly a gift from God!!0

Absolutely know how you feel - my Mum's 12yr old Lab died on Monday and though he wasn't mine, he stayed with me 3/4 months of the year whilst she sailed and I feel his loss like a member of the family. Like you, I went straight into emotional eating pattern but luckily I managed to reign it in to the one day.
My advice is don't stress it - the grief of the loss of a pet is a passing thing and you need to take care of your psychological well-being at the time. Weight-loss is an on-going process, a day or two of slipping doesn't matter as long as you keep your end goal in sight and get back to it when your mind is a little quieter.
Concentrate on the fact that your pup could easily have had a short and unhappy life, but thanks to you he tasted happiness and love.0 -
Oh how heart breaking. I am so very sorry for your loss. Those without dogs or have no love of animals, will never know just how much they touch our lives and our hearts. As others here have already said, though his life was short, he sure seemed to have a wonderful time, and no doubt lived in a home filled with love. It may not be a consolation right now, but he is now with God, as I do believe God loves all of the animals he created and surely has a place for them with him. You showed great love for your puppy, and that shows what a beautiful heart you have.
Eating out of control will not bring your beautiful dog back, and your others still need you just as much. We tend to turn to food in times of sorrow, but really, it will just add to your sadness down the road, if you gain weight from the food you used to console yourself. Instead, honor the memory of your dog and take better care of yourself then ever before. He had a congenital defect.......but you could be putting your own health at risk......by eating so much.
So, of course you will mourn this sad loss, but don't let it bring you to a place where you will the feel self loathing. You gave him a great, love filled life, and now you have the others to show that love and attention to, they need you, and they need you to be healthy!
Cry the tears you need to, then turn to your friends at MFP to help you stand up again and move forward towards your goals. You and your other dogs are worth it!0 -
I'm so sorry for your loss - it must have been such a shock at such a young age.
I've never had a dog (although my husband would dearly love to have a German Shepherd), I've always been a cat person. I lost my rescue cat a year ago aged 14 and my dear Siamese when she was 18 year old last October. I thought my heart was going to break, I cried until I had nothing left. We had been through so much together, she was my friend and more inteligent than any other cat I'd ever had. Slowly taking each day at a time it got easier, but I didn't put her things away until I was ready to accept she'd gone forever. I will never forget her and the love she gave but I know she is in a better place now with no suffering.
Have you heard of Rainbow Bridge, I'd like to think it exists and it helps me. http://www.petloss.com/poems/maingrp/rainbowb.htm
Don't beat yourself up at not sticking to your calories, give yourself a little time. Take care x0
