What is the best way to prepare Asparagus?

Roast it in the oven with a little salt, pepper, balsamic and olive oil. Sprinkle some parmesan on top if you want.
It's delicious just on its own. But if you have some prosciutto, wrap them up in bundles of 3. Put some mozzarella inside the prosciutto parcels if you like.
It's also nice with smoked salmon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce.0 -
Steamed and salted or lightly oiled and grilled are my go to choices for cooking asparagus. I love its natural flavor so I keep it pretty simple.0

Grilled or oven roasted with coarse sea salt, fresh ground black pepper, evoo, and topped with a good shaved parmesan cheese.0

I like it 3 ways:
roasted with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
steamed and then a sprinkle of olive oil and your favorite seasoning blend i.e. Mrs. Dash
simply raw (tastes like green peas from the garden)
GOOD STUFF!!0 -
Steam it, but if the stalks are big and long, I sometimes split the bottom of the stem as it's a bit harder than the bud at the top.
Also I chop it up and stir it into things, sauces, risotto, sitr fry with noodles, that kind of thing.0 -
Whatever way you choose, don't overcook it! We like it lightly steamed, then rolled in a little butter and lemon juice. My daughter likes some grated Parmesan over the top. I think someone already suggested wrapped in Proscuitto and grilled.
I couldn't get past the smell of a lot of leafy greens and asparagus until I learned to add the lemon juice or vinegar. It totally changes the smell and the taste. Sautéing these veggies also helps with that. No more boiling in this house!0 -
A great way to prep asparagus: trim tuff ends, drop into boiling water, take out when bright green, drop into a dish of cool water with ice cubes to stop them from becoming mushy! Lastly drizzle with what you like, I like a bit of melted Irish butter. Hope this was helpful! Enjoy0

P.s., for the stench of the tips try rinsing in a cool wash of water and a splash of vinegar. It will kill any lil buggers you can't see and may help with the stink. As for the way it makes your pee smell, get a nice Bath and Body works room freshener. Lol0

Roasted is definitely the best. I prepare most of my veggies that way now. Just a little EVOO, kosher salt, and pepper. Put in a 400 degree oven till tener crisp, anywhere between 20-40 minutes, depending on the veggie, and how crisp you want them. Yummy!0

Grill directly on the BBQ, best way ever0

Steamed! DEFINITELY STEAMED.
Doesn't even need seasoning. Steam for ten minutes. Eat. ENJOY!0 -
Balsamic Browned Butter Asparagus:
1 bunch asparagus
1-2tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp butter
1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tsp soy sauce (I used low sodium)
Lay the asparagus out flat on a baking sheet (that has raised sides)
Coat with a thin layer of olive oil (I use a small basting brush to spread evenly and use as little as possible)
Sea salt and pepper to taste
Bake @ 400F for 12-15 minutes (depending on how big your asparagus are, and how crunchy you like them)
While baking, heat the butter in a small sauce pan until it browns slightly (goes from a clear very light yellow to a more warm slightly brown/yellow)
Remove from heat
Stir in balsamic vinegar and soy sauce.
Drizzle over hot asparagus right on the baking sheet (this is why it must have sides)0 -
you know to snap off the bottom end of it, right?
i like it oven-baked, with oil, salt, pepper, and garlic. i can do it on the grill too, just wrap it in aluminum.0 -
A friend gave me some fresh picked and cleaned, chilled from the fridge this spring, Id never had it before..I ate a bunch raw!
I was on the road all day and kept picking at it. When I got home I roasted it on a baking sheet with olive oil and garlic salt..pepper and sea salt..sooo good! DONT over cook it, I almost did!0 -
Steaming it is the best way to begin with asparagus. Grilling it or roasting it is good, but really easy to mess up, steaming it will limit the amount of potential problems resulting in "yuck" (over-roasting, grill vapors, etc), my 5 year old son loves asparagus so I make it about once a week, and even then sometimes I screw it up on the grill or in the oven - steaming it is my go-to. After it's steamed I just toss it in a little butter and sprinkle some coarse salt over it, you don't have to get fancy, it's tasty as is!0

I also like to steam it, slice it, and add it to pasta dishes0 -
I have broccoli for tomorrow. My goal this year was to try at least 1 new food item from the produce section a week. Asparagus was the winner today!

Haha, I was looking for this as well today. I am not really a cook but I eat more Veggies then my husband does. So I found this post on here and I just made this today and they are really good.
super simple. i usually get these items from the farmer's market.
ingredients:
- Fresh Asparagus
- Lemon (1)
- Olive oil (1-2 tablespoons)
- fresh rosemary
- fresh dill
spray roasting pan with olive oil cooking spray or lightly coat the pan with a bit of olive oil
cut the unusable portion of the stalk off of the asparagus.
Mix olive oil with freshly squeezed lemon juice (one lemon), dill and rosemary (to taste) in a mixing bowl
toss washed & trimmed asparagus in the mixture.
Line the asparagus up on roasting pan (do not pile on top of each other)
Bake at 350 in the oven for approx 20 minutes, depending on how much you are making. Check on it every 5-10 minutes. It is done when you see that the asparagus has roasted, i like mine slightly blackened on the tips but this is really subjective.
enjoy! no salt!! great on the side!

Grilled, hands down. There is no better way to eat it!0

roasted with a little olive oil and parmesan cheese...you don't have to roast it very long. I also like to just saute in olive oil and garlic.0

Grilled with lime juice!!!!0

Like most others have said....snap the ends off (they'll snap where they're supposed to!) and use light olive oil and kosher or sea salt (lightly). I roast them in the over for about 15-20 min at 450 depending on the size of them (sometimes they're thin and other times a bit bigger). After about 8 minutes, I stir them around so the other sides will cook.
I have a olive oil mister which sprays them so it doesn't use much to coat them.
Also, I do this with almost all my veggies. Tonight brussell sprouts!0 -
Steam it and then put some MSG on it.
