Cal in vs cal out

If I take in 1300 cal and loose 1000 during cardio is that good or bad? My meals are high protein and I don't feel hungry. Thanks

1300 calories per day is unhealthy for a male. If you are trying to lose weight you are well able to eat more than that.

    Very bad.

You're burning 2000+ just by living and breathing every day, eating only 1300 and burning an extra 1000 from exercise is not healthy or sustainable.

When I burn the extra amount it's only three days a week. Is that ok?

I have less of a problem with you burning 1000 calories from exercise (how are you doing that btw?) than I do with you not eating enough.

Based on my websites I've checked including medical websites, 1300 calories per day is too low. They state minimum calorie intake should be 1200 for a female and 1500 for a male. For calories burned you should look at the total burn which includes calories burned for sleep, resting and exercise. My Fitbit shows my calorie burn at around 2500 as the base for the day. Any walking I do during the day, flights of stairs climbed, etc. will adjust that time and then add any extra burned calories. Comparing your total intake vs. total burn you would need a 500 calorie deficit for the day to lose one pound per week and a 1000 calorie deficit per day to lose two pounds per week. If you are trying to maintain weight then I believe it would be a zero deficit per day.
  • I think I remember reading somewhere that for a male you should eat no less than 1500 cal per day. If my opinion matters, I would suggest upping your caloric intake, and eating back some of your exercise calories.

You can eat at 1300 for a couple days, weeks even but eventually I bet you'll binge at some point. I'm 29, 5'2" and I'm losing on 1400 for .5 lbs per week and that's not including the calories I eat back after exercise. I'm sure you want to lose as quickly as you can but its not healthy for you and it had to be miserable. I'd up your calories for sure.

Maybe I will just try eating high calorie foods

Yeah, 1950 looks way more reasonable. Try getting to that.

According to my treadmill, at my weight, 245.6, and my speed, 4.2 mph, it would take me 107 minutes to burn 1000 calories. Therefore, I am skeptical that you are burning 1000 calories in cardio each day. My food intake is similar to yours and my average daily weight loss in 9 weeks is .43/day. In the past 7 days I've done cardio at 4.2 mph 5 times for a total of 2 hours, 4 minutes, burning 1062 calories.

That's with the burn calculated in I guess. I had to lose 50 and was eating 1600 without extra exercise calories for 1 pound per week loss. 350 more than that for your exercise burns seems reasonable.

Personally I am cautious of large deficits. Not only do you run the risk of losing more muscle, you run the risk of depleting energy levels you need for day to day stuff like work and your home life/normal non exercise activity.

I'm hoping some of the more informed experts weigh in here. I've asked for studies and such on single day deficits and seen very little on it. And on occasion when I burn a lot of calories I'm just not in the mood to eat that much back.

I've always tried to stick to the 1% of body weight per week as a deficit maximum to err on the side of being safe. But where do the experts think a doctor or modified diet should come into the picture?

That makes more sense--the calories from the job.

Thing is we can be mentally not hungry when we first try lose weight obviously those of us with lots to lose were eating many many calories so we were comfort eating being greedy it hungry or enjoying food too much.

You need to remember this is for life very low calories will give you a maintenance of very low calories then lead to a life of yoyo weight on and off

So eat , some people stop as fear of not losing but long term it won't work.
