Tree Planting

Hi everyone! Today is a beautiful day and I want to get outside. I am going to dig places for five fruit trees to be planted. I am using my workout time for this and hope to draw the kids in for some physical activity. Anyone else planting trees? My other lanscaping/workout project is to use forms to pour a concrete paver walkway. I'd love to hear other fitness/landscaping efforts to get ideas!

I wish it was nice enough here for that! While our temps are finally above 0, it's still too chilly for planting and we still have snow :(
We are planning on going out for a walkabout to take some pictures for my girl's heritage project for school.

We plant trees or other favored perennials to mark special occasions. It's nice to see a tree in the yard and be reminded of a wonderful life event.

Definitely! We de-rocked our front yard last year and it was most definitely a workout lol! Still have half our ginormous back yard to do and have to plant grass in the front this year. If we ever get rid of this snow lol

Build a flower bed? A fire pit/sitting area?

Capaul, hope it warms up soon there! We are also hoping to put a lawn in this summer... So excited to then do flower beds! Cindy, that's such a cool idea! We are going to try that. I am dreaming of the day when someday my grandkids will pick peaches. And it was a workout for sure! Cassidy, genius! That would be so amazing. Hauling stone would have to qualify.

Thanks for the ideas! After a long winter of indoor exercising I am ready for a mix up to keep going.

    Happy landscaping everyone!

It went great. We set out to dig three spots and did five. Two out of three kids got involved. Tomorrow we will place the trees and get them watered.

The fruits of your labor! ;)

Breaking a concrete pad with sledge hammer and carrying or chucking pieces to a pile=full-body workout. Laying a new foundation (leveling and tamping<--or jumping) and carrying 50# sacks is a good workout too. Did that last week for the fun of it.

I am addicted to landscape design. All the shoveling, tamping, wheel-barreling...is worth it in the end. I just have to be aware of form and perform as I do strength training or it can wear me down or become grunt work[/].

Last month I planted a lemon that was outgrowing the patio. It is doing great, flowering like crazy. I've got to dig some manure into a bed today so we can get the rest of the tomatoes planted. That should be a workout. Yesterday I put on my heart rate monitor to see how much I burned turning the compost pile, 374 calories. Spring is a great time to get in shape.

Jennybearly, that's so cool about measuring the calories from the compost turning! Awesome! Rileyes, thanks for the reminder on proper form. Easy to forget that heavy lifting while having a blast Is still heavy lifting. 50 pound sacks for fun? That's admirable!

Last Fall I dug a trench out of hard clay and built a hugelkultur bed. Can't wait to plant stuff in it! In the Summer I dug up an old brick patio and moved it, wheelbarrow-full at a time, to the other side of our house. Dug & leveled, relaid the bricks into a new patio. Talk about a workout...we had some trees removed and I'm thinking of planting some sour cherry and blueberry patch.

Yum! Cherries and blueberries! I love how this ties everything together. Food, exercise, and creativity. What could be better!
