Cutting out sugar (promise me I'll eventually stop crying)

As they say "1 is too many, and 1,000 is never enough".
I'm pretty sure I'm a legitimate sugar addict. I gave it up for Lent but never really felt "free". Weeks in, I fantasized about an Easter Day binge (which I did: coffee cake, DD Coolata, donut, candy, cheesecake, Reese's cup, Coke....) I asked to just smell people's cupcakes (creeeeeeepy weird). I almost broke into tears because I wanted a milkshake one night. But meanwhile, I've lost a few lbs, slimmed my tummy and am getting stronger. Sugar definitely does nothing for my goals of lifting heavy and CrossFit. So, I just can't.
So tell me, LIE to me: that months or years later, I won't miss it. And it'll be worth it!

Can't say that for sure. Are you sure you don't want to just try to cut down on it and incorporate a treat here or there?

Says who? You can still lose weight while eating sugar.

I'm just going to assume you mean added sugar or desserts/sweets because idk how you'd find anything to eat that had no sugar in it.
As an addict, the jonsey feeling never goes away. Been "clean" for 10 years and I still want it every day.0 -
Do you eat fruit?
If you eat enough fruit you won't miss any of that stuff. I probably eat over 100g of sugar a day from fruit. I ain't got time for donuts or cupcakes. Plus, those foods probably have more fat than sugar so dip a wedge of apple into a jar of almond butter if it's that combination you're craving.
Fruit: Water, Micronutrients, Fiber, SUGAR!

@Chris99mu at the age of 63 and sinking fast I tried to taper off sugar and grains for two months and failed. Then I left both sugar and all forums of grains cold turkey hoping to manage my joint and muscle pain. In two weeks the cravings for carbs started to fade fast. The physical cravings were gone (still had/have some mental cravings from time to time) were gone in 30 days and my joint/muscle pain dropped from a subjective 7-8 pain level to 2-3 in just 30 days as well. That was 1.5 years ago. My weight dropped to 200 from 250 and I have maintained at 200 for one year now. You are very active so you will burn a lot of calories.
In my case I learned I had to focus on fixing my cravings so I would not binge before cutting calories gave me any long term weight loss.
Try and see if you can find a macro that will cut out all of your physical cravings then cutting calories may come automatically without effort on your part. If I try to binge now I feel so full I have to stop eating. That never happened in my first 63 years.
Best of success. Get this nailed while you are young so you do not screw up your future like I did.0 -
There is a good chance that it will go. It did for me . It took a couple of weeks of reducing ALL carbs but it worked. I hear similar stories from other people who can starches, sugars, and grain products. Cutting just sugars but keeping baking and sweet fruits may not do it for you.
Good luck.0 -
No lie - without carbs you will be much better off!
