I just came home from a 3 month holiday. I tried to make good food choices but if I really wanted something not healthy I went for it. I tried to keep my water intake right up, and aside from walking lots, climbing lots of structures (eiffel tower, many church domes and towers) and a few days of intense falling down with a snowboard attached to me, I didn't exercise (usually I work out a little most days and intensely at least twice a week).

I put on 2kg, lost a little muscle and a little cardio fitness.

enjoy yourself, try to make good choices, and don't beat yourself up if you don't!

there's always tomorrow, but you might not be in holiday then :)

When I am on vacation, I stick to 3 meals per day, no snacks in between. I also choose alcohol or dessert, never both. Also while on vacation is a perfect time to add in a little extra exercise. I love cruising and I always come back the same weight as I left. Also extra, extra hydration.

Drink a LOT of water!!! Find a grocer near your hotel and pick up some fruits and healthy snacks on day 1 so you always have something. Remember that casual strolling is not exercise, even if you're on your feet all day so don't use "all that walkng we did" as an excuse to overindulge every day.

But you're on vacation, so indulge a little ;) Have a great time!!!

    You'll be fine in Indo!

LOADS of fresh fruit to keep you going, not too many dessert things (mainly fried stuff...once you've tasted one, you've tasted them all), noodles and rice and fresh dishes.

When I was backpacking, I'd get fresh fruit/juice from street vendors which would keep me going most of the day, with maybe some noodles for lunch and some curry for dinner.

The first time I went, I actually lost weight, but that was more due to the fact that I ate some dodgy squid and spent a good few days being oh so ill.

The second time I think I maintained, but I was also helping myself to the local beers as well...!

Portion control is your friend. Especially with bread, pasta, booze, and dessert. These are items where huge portions easily can blow your calorie budget. Enjoy your trip

I try to stick to minimally processed foods - the fresher the better! Avoid anything you know is high in saturated fat like fried foods, baked dessert, chocolate, specialty coffees made with cream. If I'm eating somewhere where all the choices are going to be high calorie, I go back to basics - salad, veggies, small portion of non-fried meat. OPs above are spot on...portion control is your friend. Enjoy traveling!

Depends on why I am travelling.

Vacation I don't care...I eat what I want, drink what I want (keep in mind I can't eat as much as I used to so portion control happens on it's own)

Work travel I go to the grocery store and keep healthy choices in my room in my hotel.

If I'm on vacation I eat whatever I want then lose it when I come back.

Life is way too short to worry about the 3-4 pounds I might gain.

I bring healthy snacks for the ride (if I'm driving).
I get a room with a fridge/microwave and go to the local grocery store.
I look up restaurants close to the hotel and check out the menu for healthy options.
Last but not least, I have FUN!
