6'1 large frame male ideal weight?

I have seen online calculators that tabulate the ideal weight for a 6'1 male as 168 - 192. I always thought well let me set my goal at 180 right in the middle. But now that I think about it, maybe that's to thin for a large frame 6'1 guy. More like 190 but that Would put me 2 pounds below overweight. I'd like to have some cushion when I hit my goal. Asking everyone on here. What target number should I aim for?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Are you lifting weights on a regular basis? If you really have some muscle 190-200 at 6'1" would be fine. The BMI scales work for around 80% of the population. If you lift don't put quite as much stock in the BMI, do the jump and jiggle test.
Best of luck.0 -
That's a very subjective question. Do you prefer a very lean look? More muscular? Do you have performance goals?0

It's totally subjective and depends on your goals. I'd get there first before you make any decisions.0

weight is the poorest metric for fitness... concentrate on body fat %... find a university (college) that has a decent kinesiology dept. and see if you can book an appointment to get yourself a decent assessment. THEN decide on the look you are striving for... marathon runner v. Sprinter v. shot put v. gymnast. then find a routine that will get you where you want to go.0

Thanks for the replies. I want to be lean with some muscle. Body fat % is decreased/increased how? I will look at the colleges around here. I live in MA near Boston. I used to sprint a lot when I was 18/19. And lifted at that age as well. Any good articles that you guys rec I read online?

I'm a female with a large frame and I will know my ideal weight when I get there. The only time my BMI has been in Normal was after six weeks of under-eating and over-exercising during Boot Camp.0 -

I was just trying to get a somewhat accurate not to thin target/goal number. Nothing more than that. 180 is what I picked initially. I just didn't know if that was too low and try to get to 190 instead. The only reason I picked 180 was because it was in the middle of the bmi calculator 168-192. I am not basing it on anything else.0 -
I'm 6'1 and up until a year ago believed I was large framed now that I'm 185lbs (down 100lbs) I question that belief. I tell people look at a picture of yourself your senior year of high school then you will get a more accurate picture of your true frame size the rest is just muscle and fat..0

I used to lift at Golds gym back in 93-94 and was always told I have a large frame by pro body builders that used to go there. I always was big even when I was a teenager. Broad shoulders. That could of been just *kitten* talk and it's really all that I am going by. People today still tell me it. It could all be hogwash really. Regardless I really don't care about a large frame other then what a good goal target weight number is for a 6'1 guy. I guess I will have to do more reading on body fat % and get some info from the local colleges around here.
Does body fat disappear when muscle is gained? No right? I mean, the fat doesn't magically go away with the addition of new muscle right? It's the burning of it off from the effort of trying to build it..I think, no?0 -

Its going to depend. Pick a starting goal and re-evaluate when you get close.
I'm 5'11" and originally had a goal of 175lb and abs, and am now down to 168lb at ~10-12%BF. I originally thought 175 would be too small, but obviously I went by that weight no problem and I think I'm going to bottom out at 165lb. However, I do intend to get back up to 175lb or higher, only with a lot more muscle mass than I have now.
If you haven't been lifting recently a good first goal is the top of BMI. If you want to decrease BF%, then eat at a deficit to lose weight and eat sufficient protein and do resistance training to maintain muscle. A good target BF% is 15%, lower if you want defined abs, a little higher is ok too.0
