Food at Work

How does everyone deal with food at work?
We have a potluck once a month, and when that happens, I usually go to the gym when that is going on. If we have some other sort of office gathering, like Pizza or Chinese Food, I again, go to the gym, or just don't eat it.
My issue right now, is the little bit sized treats left everywhere, that have cropped up due to Easter (and it will be Christmas, Halloween etc). My boss put out a ton of Easter baskets with chocolate eggs, candies, M&Ms etc, and of course I just worked this weekend. Unfortunately, I happened to grab handfuls here and there, and I tried to track them, but I am sure that I was off.
I don't buy chocolate, or 'junk food', as I learned that if I don't buy them I don't eat them. If I buy a 'treat' I end up munching on it. Chocolate actually isn't even a top 5 for treats for me! I know that I munched on them this weekend because they were there....and the act of bringing them in, and my own behavior just annoys me.
I know that part of this is my schedule being off, as it just changed, and I don't when I am eating or sleeping anymore, but that will settle down this week. I am usually really good at saying no to food offered to me. But....
How do I avoid the bite sized treats?!

How about having "not so bad" snacks at your desk, or mints? Then when you feel the urge to grab, grab the better alternative instead?0

I hate the food at the office thing. I have to refuse like three times to get people to take no for an answer. And then I am "diet girl." But determination towards your goal is really the task.0

One thing that has really helped me with those pesky office goodies is Sugar Free Werther's Chocolate Caramel candies. I don't know why, but it's chocolaty enough and sweet enough to help me feel like I'm getting a treat and helps me keep my hands out of the work "cookie jar". They only cost me 40 calories in 5 pieces if I feel like I need all of them.0

Food is always at work in the form of snacks and candy. First Fridays are the big breakfast day, when the company provides an abundance of carbs and sugar. I use the first Friday offering as a choice for my lunch needs, choosing something that can fit under 400 calories. This can accommodate a bagel. The rest of the time, I may choose among the offered snacks so long as it fits within my calorie and sodium plan for the day.0

I have a couple of techniques I try in the face of treats - first is to see if it's homemade vs store bought.. I won't waste my cals on anything store bought stuff... that's #1 rule.. but if its homemade, 2nd question to myself is do I LOVE what it is.. aka is it "calorie worthy"... if its not something I would kill someone for, I can walk away. BUT if it is something i would never make, and home made, and falls in the LOVE category, then the 3rd question is.. what do i want more.. to get back to my goal weight, or this triple chocolate brownie. On occasion, the brownie wins... but most times just the act of going thru the 3 questions makes me seriously think about the choice instead of just shoving it in and regretting it later.
(But i have learned it's better to have that conversation with yourself in your head rather than out loud.. people tend to run.... far.... )
Hang in there... !0 -
