i'll have to call the doc and ask about HDL. I remember her mentioning it, but after she mentioned it she said and your "bad cholesterol is", so I forgot the good!! lol
Gale..you sound knowledgeable. how bad was 11.1? was I at risk?
My son's a1c was 14 when he was diagnosed with Type 1 and wasn't making any insulin at all. A1c over 11 means your average blood sugar was over 250. Bringing it down to 6.4 is amazing. (Means your average is closer to 130).0 -
11.1 was at crazy risk. (You can easily find information about what these numbers mean, in terms of increased risk of stroke, etc., on the internet.) Your doc will be happier if you can get under 5.5, but 6.4 is excellent for now. Your doc probably thinks he died and went to Heaven to see you at 6.4, which he probably considers a reasonably well-managed case of diabetes. If he sees room for improvement, it's a sign of his confidence that you're really taking your health seriously: one of his very unusual patients.0
