Hi there. I see most people am have been set to 1200 calories a day. MFP has me set to 1520/day. Does that sound right??

Sounds fine. MFP sets calories dependent on the individual. It will differ person to person by sex, age, start weight, goal loss, etc. I'm set to 1870 calories to lose 2ppw. Last week I lost 5.8 though so I could obviously eat even more.0

Sure. Considering you've given zero details to decide if it sounds right or not. 1200 is the absolute minimum MFP will give - if you can eat more you definitely should.0

Unless you are petite or sedentary, probably.0

1200 is a minimum default. 1200 only sounds reasonable when you are a senior or very petite lady.
1520 is probably reasonable. If your goals are here:
Pound per week goals
75+ lbs set to lose 2 lb range
Between 40 - 75 lbs set to lose 1.5 lb range
Between 25-40 lbs set to lose 1 lb range
Between 15-25 lbs set to lose 1 -.50 lb range
Less than 15 lbs set to lose 0.5 lbs range
Then 1520 is reasonable.

I keep seeing this around; do you have a link or know the science behind why each weight range would have those specific amount lost per week goals? Example I'd like to lose about 30lb, so according to this I should have a goal of 1lb/week, but why wouldn't 1.5-2lb/week be reasonable for that? Is it only to make maintenance easier once at the goal weight?
Sorry for high-jacking the post, OP.0 -

I was told on here that I should only loose up to 1% in lbs of my body weight per week. I'm 180lbs so I can safely loose up to 1.8lb per week
