Pain in heel of palm during planks, pushups, and down facing dog

Hey all, I've been trying to get back into a routine including full-body exercises. I used to do yoga in college and am trying some fitness apps with full-body calisthenic exercises like pushups and planks and such, but am consistently running into the issue that caused me to give up yoga - pain in the heels of both palms. It's more prominent in the left palm but on both hands, when I do a plank or pushup or down-facing dog (anything that involves me putting at least half my bodyweight onto my open hands) I feel a pain where the bone sits on the outside of both palms. (You know how there are two bony protrusions at the base of both hands? The one underneath the pinky, right at the place where it sticks out above the wrist.) It feels like it's almost bruised, and if I try to push through it, it will feel worse, to the point where it takes little weight to have me wincing.

I brought it up to my PCP once who felt the bony protrusion and shrugged and said "maybe just don't do yoga". Except now my core strength and arm strength is shot, so maybe bad advice? Help! Anyone else run into this issue and have advice about a: what it is, and b: how to work around it/fix the issue? I miss yoga! :-(

    Two things come to mind:

    1. Are you trying to do too much too soon?

    2. I have no personal experience with yoga jellies but remember them from another thread. Maybe try getting them cheaper at a sporting goods store.

I would see a specialist. I don't understand why your PCP brushed it off.
