Striving for top condition on a budget

Many of us go through times in life where it is very difficult to make ends meet. Staying fit and even getting yourself in top condition should never cost a penny more than it does to eat.
Please share some of what has worked for you. Here is what I have done:
Run to and from work to the train station, barefoot sprints, pull-ups on doors or anywhere and anytime I feel like it that won't get me arrested, push ups on all varieties elevated on all levels, volunteer to be front of line unloading trucks to set a fast pace, be the first to grab the heaviest loads, always take stairs and jump as many as possible, rocks for weights, construction work, haul gravel, tuna and cottage cheese for protein, water to rehydrate. Total cost: 0

Barefoot runner here, the $hoe companie$ don't get my money. No gym membership fees for me either, I go trail running and hiking in the hills by my home, they are quite steep and a great challenge, not to mention a lot more fun than gyms, which I find boring anyway.

Some of the biggest, strongest men in the world are in prison. Many times no equipment to work out. Here is an example. Google prison or convict workouts.

Barefoot running is very refreshing! I agree about the shoe companies. Hiking never loses its novelty for me. Especially at night!

Thank you for the link! Yes you are right about the prisoners and they don't spend tons of dough on protein powders! That is a perfect example and has roots in he ancient gladiators.

And they did what they had to do with that ratio of macros and superb fiber source. My guess is the more cunning individuals would manage to find, steal, or do whatever it took to hoard olive oil or any other fats found in that particular region in order to outlast the opponents with endurance. Or to lubricate the body to prevent holds. Not mention whether or not they were privileged with salt to accommodate the bland legumes; the origin of a few wars here and there.
