update: push ups

I followed the advice that was given yesterday to attempt to do the push ups prior to planking. Well surprisingly I was able to do 5 push ups. Yay!!
I seen a lady doing push ups resting on the barbells and she was lifting her arms. Now that has to take some serious strength. I would definitely like to get to that point.

I am not sure if I follow. Are you saying prior to doing the plank in your workout (W/O) routine do your pushups (P/U’s)? Or are you saying that you were told to build up to doing the plank do pushups? I think the regular Plank is easy enough to just start with. Just start slow 10 or so seconds or whatever you can muster and then just try and beat that each time.
As to the P/U’s I think what you are describing are “Renegade Rows, with P/U’s.” See the attached link for a demo; however note that in the example the person is using KB’s. That is advanced and requires strong wrist and core, which takes a long time to build. You can try them using 2.5 or 5 pound dumbbells or whatever weight suites you. To build up to that exercise you can start with the P/U’s that you are already doing and the upright Plank or P/U position Plank, which is nothing more than holding the upright position of the P/U. After you have built up your strength and can do both with ease you can add in to the P/U Plank raising each hand one at a time of course to get the balance down of only having one hand supporting you. NOTE, for this part spread your feet apart, should width will be good.
The link is a great site for exercise information and demos cruise around and check it out.

@DWBalboa Before today I was doing planks on my elbow, holding for 2.5 minutes. Then I did side planks holding for a minute. After those I was attempting to do push ups. I couldnt even do one. Someone suggested that I try to do the push ups before the planks. So that is what I did today. I was super stoked that I could do 5.0

Ok, so that make sense. The planks were probably wearing you out and doing P/U's afterwards just did not leave you the energy.
Those are good times for the planks, good job! 5 P/U's is a good start too, you'll be at ten before you know it.
That link has a lot of great information and is a good source for exercises. I hope that it helps.0
