Cannot get pumped up

I've been on a streak for a couple of months now and I'm on a slump right now.

Usually, I get up at 6am to take my dog for a walk and then head to the community fitness center. 30 minutes on the stationary bike and 30 minutes on the treadmill. I'd feel really good by the end of the hour and motivated to continue the day.

Problem: I cannot bring myself to go. I went for a half hour yesterday and completely skipped it today. I am nowhere near pumped to go tomorrow morning.

I need help. Any kind of push would be greatly appreciated

We all hit slumps. Try to remember why you started.

Perhaps it is time to try something new?

I've been trying to do some home activities because the fitness center gets intimidating when other people are there (lame excuse), so I'll definitely take your advice and look around here for some new ideas  Thank you

You should discover new exercises. Your body and mind adapt quickly. If you already know you're going to the gym to do an hour of bike/treadmill, your mind will become stale. Read articles and watch videos of new exercises so you'll have the motivation to get to the gym and try them out! I know it can be intimidating to explore a different area of the gym, but everyone there started from somewhere too. Don't let anything stand in the way of becoming fit!

Get some good music, new workout outfit, anything that helps lift your mood!
    You can do it :-)

I agree with trying something new. Look at classes your fitness center might offer. Look into some resistance training (look for New Rules of Lifting for Women or google SL 5x5). Find a sport you are interested in - golf (walking, no golf cart, lol), tennis, martial arts, swimming, etc.

And remember, being pumped and excited can lull, but being determined or committed is what keeps you going through the slumps. Work from commitment when the pump isn't there.

having a crappy day and needing a break is fine and normal.

but honestly, to be expected to have a high level of motivation consistently is unreasonable. sometimes you just have to get out there, turn on auto-pilot and do the movements.

There are days I don't want to go to the gym. If it has been 2 days since I've gone, and not feeling it, I make myself go and just do it. I might only do 90% of my workout, but I go through the motions and do most of it. There are a couple of exercises I won't do if I really don't feel like it.

It's too easy to just let 2 days off go into 3, 4, then a week, then it's been a month, etc. You just have to force yourself to do it on the days you don't really want to. Usually I feel better afterward, knowing I got it done.

I think I really needed to have this said to me. You're definitely right. I'm being unreasonable for wanting to always be excited. I'm glad I pushed myself tonight to go to the gym anyway :)

    Thank you for the advice!

Thanks everyone! You've all made a lot of good points :) I'm going to focus on finding new activities to switch things up and try to put my commitment before my temptation to be lazy
